ABOUT THE PLAYER'S EDGE
Chris Newell has been in Professional baseball since 1997 as a player, scout, coach, and manager. As the manager of High-A Brooklyn in 2023, he led the Cyclones to a first place tie. Chris also made his Major League debut on June 21, 2022. Prior to coaching, he played his college ball at Northwest Missouri State University, where he led the Bearcats in Hitting in 1995 with a .346 batting average and won the Best Defensive Player.

Chris started The Player’s Edge in December of 1999 and through his tutelage, he has had more than 200 of his student-athletes reach their dreams of playing in college as well as 54 of them either getting drafted or signing professional contracts. Two of Chris’ long time students include DJ LeMahieu and Jake Cronenworth. LeMahieu is a 3-time MLB All-Star, 3-time Gold Glove Award Winner two-time MLB Batting Champion. Cronenworth led the International League (AAA) in Hitting in 2019, has been a 4-time Minor League All Star, and a 2021 National League All-Star.

Chris has had 18 All-Conference college players, 7 college All-Americans, 90 All-State players, 31 Dream Team selections, 2 College World Series Champions, 2 Gatorade Players of the Year and a Mr. Baseball Award Winner.
In 2016, Chris became the USPBL’s very first Manager (Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers) in league history. His teams finished the regular season with the best record in each of the first three seasons. He is the only Manager to win back-to-back championships (2017 and 2018) and won Manager of the Year in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Chris was also in charge of his hitters as he saw two of his players win the Batting Title in 2016, 2017 and 2018 as well as the Home Run Title in 2016 and 2017. Along with these awards, he saw his Ace pitcher capture the Pitcher of the Year in 2016 and his Shortstop win the Defensive Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017. Chris had the most players signed to MLB contracts and left the USPBL as the winningest manager.
